Dubuffet Inspired Sculpture
Another artist we learned about was Jean Dubuffet. We really loved his bold abstract people shapes and first spent time looking at some of his work before having a go at making this really simple paper sculpture.
Since we don't have a crazy amount of space in our house for the infinite amount of artwork we create I try to get the kids to work on things collaboratively and this was a really great little project to do so.

Even though I prefer looking at the video above, I've included photos of how we went about making it in case that's useful to someone.
What you will need:
- 2 pieces of A4 paper
- red, black & blue markers
- scissors
- glue
How we did it:
- First draw squiggly shapes with a black marker covering the A4 paper. Try to cover as much of the page as possible without lifting your hand.
- Next take both papers and fold it in half lengthwise and then cut them in the middle.
- Now you should have 4 pieces and line them up and fold them in half again lengthwise.
- Next make a shape such as below making sure the top and bottom line go into the corner and then cut it out.
- Now go over the edge and outline with a black marker and also go over your lines to make them thicker if need be.
- Now alternate with colouring in three red shapes, three blue shapes, three black shapes, three with red stripes and three with blue stripes.
- Next, take all your pieces and fold them in half and then line up each side to the other matching side and glue them together.
- And you're finished!
